Rangers' Phil Klein tapped for first start on Wednesday in Boston

Right-hander Phil Klein will start for the Texas Rangers on Wednesday in a matchup with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, it was revealed on Tuesday.
2015 has been an up-and-down affair for Klein, who began the year in the Rangers' bullpen but was subsequently optioned to Triple-A Round Rock after some ineffectiveness. Wednesday's outing will be Klein's first start at the Major League level.
As Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram noted, Klein is looking forward to the chance to prove to the club that he belongs in their pitching plans: “It’s a great opportunity. Wherever and whenever I need to throw I’m just going to do my best and do whatever I can.” With the Rangers desperate for pitching stability, especially with lefty Ross Detwiler experiencing shoulder inflammation, this is a big opportunity for Klein to step in and show the Rangers what he can do.
In his career with the Rangers, Klein owns a 1-2 record with a 3.80 ERA across 23 2/3 innings pitched between 2014 and 2015.
