Rangers knock out Verlander early with 7-run 3rd

The Texas Rangers have knocked out Detroit ace Justin Verlander with a seven-run third inning as an anticipated pitching duel with Yu Darvish fizzled.
Verlander gave up eight runs in just 2 2-3 innings Thursday night, capped by a three-run homer from Geovany Soto, who was hitting .170 without a long ball.
The hard-throwing right-hander had allowed four earned runs in four previous starts at Rangers Ballpark.
Verlander walked in the first two runs in the third after coming in with just three career bases-loaded walks. Mitch Moreland broke a 3-all tie with a two-run double before Soto's shot put Texas ahead 8-3.
Darvish wasn't much better, allowing two home runs for the third straight game. Jhonny Peralta had one of them as the first batter after the Texas outburst.
