Rangers' Hurley recovering from hit comebacker

Published Apr. 21, 2011 1:36 a.m. ET

The Texas Rangers say minor league pitcher Eric Hurley has a mild concussion and a small fracture after being struck on the right side of a head by a one-hop comebacker.

The Rangers said Hurley was released from a New Orleans hospital Wednesday but won't be allowed to travel until later this week. He was hit Monday night while pitching for Triple-A Round Rock at New Orleans.

Hurley will then go to Texas for further evaluation. It is unknown when he will be able to resume baseball activities.

Hurley, a first-round pick by Texas in 2004, made five major league starts in 2008. The right-hander missed 2009 after surgery on a torn rotator cuff and last year after surgery twice on a broken left wrist.
