Qualls gets a strikeout - then a knockdown

Chad Qualls got a strikeout and a knockdown on the same play.

The Miami Marlins reliever gave up a leadoff triple to the New York Mets' Marlon Byrd to lead off the eighth inning Tuesday night, then fought his way out of the jam to preserve a 2-all tie. He struck out Ike Davis, got John Buck to ground out and two batters later struck out Omar Quintanilla to end the inning.

That being said, Qualls didn't escape unscathed.

Leaving the mound after the strike-three call against Quintanilla, he punched the air in celebration as he headed toward the Marlins' dugout. But as he threw the punch, he appeared to snag his right cleat in the infield grass while rolling his left ankle, his forward momentum sending him tumbling to the ground.

Qualls appeared uninjured. He bounced up quickly and continued to the dugout, where he covered his face in a towel and laughed with teammates. The Marlins eventually lost 4-2 in 10 innings.

It was the second odd fall in as many years for Qualls. As a member of the Philadelphia Phillies last season, he fell over on the mound after a routine pickoff throw to first base in a game at Baltimore against the Orioles.
