Phillies' Maikel Franco named NL Rookie of the Month for remarkable June
Maikel Franco has been one of the few bright spots for the Philadelphia Phillies this season, and is on pace to earn himself some hardware if he can sustain the way he's played in a terrific rookie campaign.
The Phillies third baseman was named NL Rookie of the Month for June on Thursday, becoming the first Phillies rookie to earn the honor since Ryan Howard in 2005.
Franco's first full month in the big leagues was one he'll never forget.
The 22-year-old hit .352/.391/.648 with eight home runs and 24 RBI in the month, making some outstanding plays in the field as well.
Franco hit safely in 21 out of 27 games in June, notching 13 multi-hit games.
His most memorable stretch out of the fantastic month came in a series against the New York Yankees in which went 4 for 5 with two home runs and five RBI in the series opener and then went 2 for 3 with a homer and 5 RBI the following night.
In 45 games in his rookie season, Franco is hitting .299/.344/.548 with 10 home runs and 34 RBI in 177 at-bats.
