The San Diego Padres have placed closer Huston Street on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left calf muscle, and they have optioned right-hander pitcher Nick Vincent to Triple-A Tucson.
Street has converted 11 of 12 save opportunities this season. Padres manager Bud Black said Saturday right-handers Luke Gregerson and Dale Thayer will be used to close games in Street's absence, with Gregerson getting the bulk of the save chances.
Both Street and Black said Saturday the injury is less severe this time. Street missed nearly three weeks with a sore calf in 2012.
The Padres recalled left-handers Robbie Erlin and Tommy Layne from Tucson to fill the roster spots. Erlin is set to start Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays
