Padres' Norris a 'winning player,' Shields has a winning mindset

New Padres manager Pat Murphy called Derek Norris a “winning player.” According to MLB.com, Murphy said:
"I don't know Derek all that well. But he's made a huge impression on me the last 48 hours as a ballplayer. Derek is a winning player.”
Murphy was referring to the fact that Norris, the team’s starting catcher, was willing to play first base on Thursday for the first time since 2013.
On the mound for the Padres Friday is another player whom Murphy could also probably refer to as a “winning player” -- James Shields. Speaking about his last start, a game which the Padres lost despite leading 2-1 when he came out, Shields told MLB.com:
"We have to win. We have to win that game. This game was ours. We have to do a better job of bearing down and getting that win right there.”
