Nelson Cruz leads All-Star voting for DH position


Nelson Cruz has definitely played at an All-Star level so far in 2015, and he's received the votes to back that up.
Major League Baseball released its first update regarding All-Star Game voting results on Tuesday, and the Seattle Mariners' slugger is leading the pack: his 1,225,255 votes pace the designated hitter category, more than 300,000 votes ahead of the second-place vote-getter, Kendrys Morales of the Kansas City Royals.
Looking for his fourth All-Star selection, Cruz leads the league with 17 home runs, has the best slugging percentage in the American League, is third in batting average and has the second-most RBIs.
As he told Greg Johns of MLB.com, Cruz is appreciative of the fan support so far: Any time you get any votes, no matter how many, you appreciate it," Cruz said. "If you've got the most at your position, you always have to remember that somebody, somewhere, took time out of their day to vote. You have to appreciate that."
Cruz is the only Mariner player among the leaders in votes, as neither Kyle Seager or Robinson Cano find themselves among the top vote-getters at this juncture in the competition.
The Midsummer Classic is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14th at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Fan voting runs up until July 2nd.
