Rookie right-hander Luis Atilano has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse by the Washington Nationals so he can get extra work during the All-Star break.
The Nationals did not immediately announce a corresponding roster move Friday.
Atilano is 6-6 with a 4.85 ERA in 15 starts this season. He took the loss in Washington's 7-1 defeat against the San Diego Padres on Thursday night, giving up four runs and eight hits in 5 1-3 innings.
Atilano will start for Syracuse next Thursday. He says the Nationals told him he would be back in the majors during Washington's July 19-22 series at the Cincinnati Reds.
