Milwaukee's Gomez plays pain in Votto's Cincy bat once again

What exactly does Carlos Gomez have against Joey Votto?

Probably nothing — Cincinnati’s Votto seems like a nice guy.

But the Milwaukee Brewers center fielder sure knows how to get the best of the Reds first baseman.

Call it “Highway Robbery II.”

On Thursday night in the bottom of the first inning with one out and none on, Votto sent a deep drive to center.

The ball looked like it had a chance to clear the wall, but Gomez did this:

Why “Highway Robbery II?”

Because on July 8, 2013, in Milwaukee, Gomez kept Votto from clearing the yard then, too, but this one was of the more dramatic kind.

In the top of the ninth, the Brewers led 4-3 when Votto came to the plate with two outs and a runner on first. A homer catapults the Reds into the lead, but Gomez decided to do this for the final out:

Thursday’s catch actually could be called “Highway Robbery III.”

Two months and seven days after the July game-ender, the Reds were back at Miller Park on Sept. 15. With the game tied 5-5 in the top of the ninth, two outs and none on Jay Bruce sent one deep ... and guess what Gomez did:

The Brewers would win 6-5 in the bottom half of the inning on Sean Halton’s third career homer.

So it’s safe to say Gomez is a Reds killer.

Despite the Brewers losing 8-3 Thursday, Gomez did more damage to the Reds —  and this doesn't include tying the game at 3-all with a two-run double in the seventh.

To start the game, he lined the first pitch to right-center. Cincinnati’s young speedster Billy Hamilton made an impressive diving catch, but sprained the third and fourth knuckles of his left hand, as reported by MLB.com. Hamilton left the game before the bottom of the first.

FYI: Gomez owns a .222 career average with six homers, 21 RBI and nine stolen bases in 49 career games vs. Cincinnati (before Thursday’s tilt).
