McCann held out with strained quad '1 more day'

Published May. 30, 2010 6:23 p.m. ET

Braves catcher Brian McCann is missing his fourth straight start with a strained right quadriceps, and he's hoping he won't miss any more games.

McCann, Atlanta's four-time All-Star, says he was told by trainers ``one more day'' before Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. David Ross again filled in as the starter.

McCann continues to take batting practice and says the injury does not cause problems when he crouches behind the plate.

Manager Bobby Cox said Saturday McCann was at about 80 to 85 percent when he was running. McCann noted speed is not a big part of his game.

Meanwhile, third baseman Chipper Jones was given a rest on Sunday. Omar Infante started at third base and Jason Heyward took Jones' normal No. 3 spot in the batting order.
