Mariners' Paxton leaves start early with 'twinge' in finger

Seattle Mariners left-hander James Paxton was forced out of Thursday night’s start against the Cleveland Indians after he experienced some ‘discomfort’ in the middle finger of his pitching hand.
At the point he was removed, the score was 4-1 Indians (they’d go on to beat Seattle 5-3).
As Doug Miller of MLB.com reported, Paxton later explained what happened: after going 2-0 on Brandon Moss, he felt a ‘twinge’ in the finger and threw one more pitch before the Mariners’ trainer came out to the mound for a visit, at which point Paxton left the game.
Afterwards, he was quoted as saying that the finger felt ‘fine’: "I'm not sure exactly what's going on with it, but hopefully we'll have more information tomorrow. Right now it feels fine. I have good movement in it. It's a little bit sore to the touch, so I'm not sure exactly what's going on."
Paxton added that he’s staying positive about the situation, offering up this bit of hopeful projection to Miller: "We'll find out tomorrow. Right now it has pretty good movement and it already feels better than it did an hour ago. Hopefully by tomorrow it'll feel much better."
