Lugo ejected by umpire Joe West
Baltimore Orioles second baseman Julio Lugo was ejected by plate umpire Joe West after throwing an elbow guard over his head following a fifth-inning strikeout in Tuesday night's game against Tampa Bay.
After taking a called third strike for the third out, Lugo threw his bat and helmet to the ground. As he was walking toward his defensive position, Lugo removed the guard on his left arm, which he threw over his head and it ended up in the batter's box.
West then threw Lugo out of the game. The infielder returned to the plate area and was restrained by first base coach John Shelby.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter left the dugout and had a short conversion with West.
Lugo started in place of Brian Roberts, who didn't feel well before the game and was a late scratch from the starting lineup.
