Is a big contract in store for Polanco?

Gregory Polanco had a big game Thursday night, but otherwise he's had a pretty pedestrian start to the season.
However, the outfielder does have a ton of talent and it would be reasonable to think the Pirates would want to lock him up, but is it too early to start worrying about a contract extension?
According to Rum Bunter, the answer may be hidden within the Pirates past transactions:
“It the Pittsburgh Pirates wait until Polanco hits his stride, will it be too late or do they follow the new Pittsburgh Pirate way and give him a multi-year contract to ensure that their young talent stays withing the organization? You don't have to look to far to see the formula that the Pirates are following starting with the contracts of Andrew McCutchen in 2013, Starling Marte in 2014, Jose Tabata (a bust to this point as he dwells in the minor leagues) and this year, Josh Harrison.”
Polanco isn't arbitration-eligible until 2018, but if the Pirates truly believe Polanco will live up to his potential then it may be best to sign him before the price gets too high.
“The Pittsburgh Pirates payroll continues to increase in a good way since they are signing their own young stars to big deals and creating a positive winning atmosphere with their youth.”
