Indians disappointed over Perez case

Published Jun. 7, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

The Cleveland Indians say the club is disappointed in hearing about the marijuana possession case against two-time All-Star closer Chris Perez.

General Manager Chris Antonetti said Friday the club is taking the matter seriously and will let the legal process evolve.

Perez and his wife were charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession in connection with two packages of pot mailed to their suburban Cleveland home earlier in the week.

Police investigative reports say Perez told drug agents who went to his house with a search warrant that he had marijuana in his home for personal use and then he pointed out two jars.

Their attorney says Perez and his wife will plead not guilty and expect a ''favorable outcome.''
