Hamels will skip start with shoulder inflammation

Published Aug. 16, 2011 10:58 p.m. ET

Phillies All-Star left-hander Cole Hamels will skip at least one turn in the rotation with shoulder inflammation.

Hamels complained that he wasn't able to get loose in his last start Friday against Washington. He lasted just five innings in a 4-2 loss and dropped to 13-7 with a 2.62 ERA.

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., says an MRI showed inflammation near the rotator cuff. Amaro says there is no structural damage. With such a big lead in the NL East, the Phillies will be cautious with one of their four aces.
