Giants activate pitcher Machi from 15-day DL

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) The Giants activated righthander Jean Machi from the disabled list and recalled him from Triple-A Sacramento before Tuesday night's game against the San Diego Padres.

Machi, who missed 17 games with a left groin strain, is 1-0 with a 5.47 ERA in 24 games with the Giants this year.

Righthander Mike Broadway was optioned to the RiverCats to make room for Machi. Broadway appeared in four games, allowing one run on three hits over 4 2/3 innings.

In related news, outfielder Nori Aoki was scratched from the starting lineup due to a lower leg injury that was first discovered Saturday.

Justin Maxwell took his place in the lineup and Gregor Blanco moved into the leadoff spot.
