Gardenhire still sick, leaves game to see doctor

Published Jul. 20, 2011 6:08 p.m. ET

Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire is still fighting a viral infection.

Gardenhire left Wednesday's game against Cleveland early to seek another examination from a doctor because he wasn't feeling well. Bench coach Scott Ullger made the pitching changes and addressed the media afterward in Gardenhire's place.

Ullger says the team will have an update on the manager's condition before Thursday's game against Detroit.

Gardenhire has been bothered by the illness for the last few weeks. He saw a doctor before Friday's game against Kansas City, skipped Saturday's game to rest and watched Sunday's game from the air-conditioned clubhouse.
