Dodgers pitcher Josh Beckett says he is retiring after 14-year career

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Josh Beckett plans to retire rather than battle his way back from his latest injury.
The 34-year-old right-hander revealed his intention to MLB.com on Tuesday after the Dodgers were eliminated from the playoffs by the St. Louis Cardinals.
Beckett finishes his career with a 138-106 record and 3.88 ERA over 14 seasons with the Marlins, Red Sox and Dodgers. He was part of World Series championship teams with the Marlins in 2003 and Red Sox in 2007. His last two seasons were interrupted by injuries. He had a rib removed in 2013, when he made only eight starts because of thoracic outlet syndrome. This year, he was 6-6 with a 2.88 ERA in 20 starts before suffering a torn labrum in his left hip.
Surgery is pending for that injury.
"I just don't see me going through that rehab and coming back to pitch, at this point in my life," Beckett told MLB.com.
Besides helping the Dodgers to a National League West division title, Beckett's final season included one last burst of glory. He threw a no-hitter May 25 at Philadelphia.
