Dodgers pitcher Bolsinger credits catcher Grandal for success

When the Dodgers acquired Yasmani Grandal from the Padres for Matt Kemp in the offseason, they expected to get a defensive upgrade behind the plate. Earlier this season Zack Greinke had praise for Grandal saying, “I couldn’t draw up a better catcher.” Following another stellar outing on Sunday Mike Bolsinger voiced his approval of the catcher, according to Think Blue LA:
“That’s the big reason for my success in all three starts this year, me and [Grandal] have just been on the same page,” Bolsinger said after the game. “When he knows what I want to throw it takes a lot of that out of your head when your pitching, so you really just go up there and just throw the pitch that he’s calling.”
Bolsinger is 2-0 with an ERA of 1.04 in three starts since being called up from Triple A to support a depleted Dodgers rotation.
The right-hander reiterated Grandal’s uncanny ability to know what he wants to throw:
“There are times when I’m gripping the ball and I’m already gripping a curveball and he calls it because he knows that’s what I want to throw.”
