Cardinals' starter Gast leaves game early

Published May. 25, 2013 9:31 p.m. ET

St. Louis starter John Gast has left the game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the bottom of the second inning.

The Cardinals say Gast has tightness in his left shoulder. The rookie left-hander was trying to improve on his 2-0 record. He faced six batters on Saturday at Dodger Stadium, and left with the score tied 1-all.

Gast threw 24 pitches, allowing one hit and one run. He walked two and had no strikeouts.

The Cardinals already have three starters on the disabled list: Chris Carpenter, Jaime Garcia and Jake Westbrook. Carpenter has yet to pitch this season.
