The St. Louis Cardinals activated right fielder Ryan Ludwick from the 15-day disabled list before Saturday's game against the Chicago Cubs.
Ludwick had been out since June 26 with an injury to his left calf.
Ludwick, an All-Star in 2008 when he had 37 homers and 113 RBIs, went into Saturday with a .273 average with 11 homers and 42 RBIs. He batted .333, homered twice and drove in five runs during a three-game rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A Memphis.
To make room on their 25-man roster, the Cardinals sent right-hander P.J. Walters to Memphis. Walters had been called up just one day earlier and pitched two perfect innings of relief Friday.
