Bryce Harper has been about as loosey-goosey as they come at the moment following an absolutely torrid stretch of hitting during the month of May. With the calendar rolling over to June, it appears that the Washington Nationals superstar intends to keep things light as he continues his MVP-caliber season.

While warming up on the field before Tuesday’s tilt against the Toronto Blue Jays at Nationals Park, Harper spotted some fans attempting to take selfies of themselves with him in the background. The slugger then asked for one of the selfie-snapper’s phone and proceeded to take an on-field photo.

“They were trying to take a selfie with me,” Harper told the AP. “I went over there and said, ‘Hey, toss me the phone and I’ll do it for you.’”

The owner of the phone turned out to be Jamie Roach, a retail manager from Maryland, who gushed about the experience to the Associated Press.

“I was so excited. I’ve never gotten a ball from him, but now I’ve got this picture,” Roach said. “It was very awesome. The feeling like a kid in a candy store.”

Harper said after the game it was simply a case of goofing off and having a good time.

“It was pretty good,” Harper said. “Just messing around a little bit with the fans. Enjoying it with them a little bit. It’s always fun.”

For the record, Harper had a decent but not great day at the plate following his pregame hijinks, going 2-for-4 in the Nats’ 7-3 loss.
