Brewers reinstate right-hander Coffey from DL

Published Jun. 20, 2010 9:07 p.m. ET

Brewers right-hander Todd Coffey was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list Sunday, bolstering Milwaukee's struggling bullpen.

To make room for Coffey on the active roster, right-hander Chris Smith was sent outright to Triple-A Nashville.

Coffey, who is 2-1 with a 3.91 ERA, has not given up a run in 21 of his 26 appearances this season. He spent the last three weeks on DL because of a right thumb contusion.

Smith was 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA in three appearances.

The Brewers' bullpen went into Sunday's game at Colorado with a 5.81 ERA and has blown 11 of 21 save opportunities.
