Brewers' Gamel injures right oblique

Published Feb. 23, 2011 12:44 p.m. ET

Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Mat Gamel will miss at least a week after straining his right oblique during batting practice.

The 25-year-old Gamel says it's another disappointing setback when he's trying to make the team. Gamel was once one of the top prospects in the organization, but spring training injuries have hampered him twice before.

He had a shoulder problem in 2009 and then tore a muscle in his right shoulder, forcing him to miss six weeks last year.

Gamel is a career .245 hitter in limited at-bats over three seasons.
