Boras says Cano comments were in jest

Agent Scott Boras retracted his claim that Robinson Cano was looking to re-work his contract with the Yankees following his big-hitting performances in the American League.
Boras told the New York Post on Wednesday that he had called Yankees general manager Brian Cashman to get Cano's options for 2012 and 2013 dropped in favor of a better deal and was yet to get a response.
But he now insists that his claim that "Cash hasn't returned my calls" was a joke.
Boras told The Post on Thursday that he was joking because he knows the Yankees are not going to drop the options, which total $29 million, for Cano.
"Cash and I have talked three or four times in the last three days. My statements were in jest. Cash always returns my phone calls," Boras said. "My conversations with Cash about Robinson have nothing to do with the options. We fully expect the options to be exercised."
Since Boras represents free agents Prince Fielder, Carlos Beltran and Edwin Jackson, The Post noted, he will likely be talking to Cashman on some level.
