OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) The Oakland Athletics placed right-hander Sonny Gray on the disabled list Sunday with a strained right forearm a day after he was pulled from his latest start.

It's Gray's second stint on the DL this season. He strained his right trapezius muscle and was out from May 21-June 4.

An All-Star in 2015, Gray has struggled most of the year following back-to-back 14-win seasons. He allowed two runs in five innings against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday before coming out due to soreness in his arm.

Chris Smith, a right-handed reliever, was called up from Triple-A Nashville to replace Gray on the roster.
