Astros and Boston forced to cancel exhibition game

Published Feb. 1, 2011 7:24 p.m. ET

The Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox have canceled the second of two exhibition games in March because MLB rules prohibit the playing of exhibition games when the regular season has started.

The canceled game was set for March 31 at Minute Maid Park, the day 12 teams begin the regular season.

The teams will still meet for one game on March 30 and the Red Sox will return to Houston for a three-game series in July.

Houston opens the regular season on April 1 at Philadelphia and Boston opens the same day at Texas.
