The New England Patriots will sign free-agent quarterback Matt Flynn, a source told FOX Sports 1 NFL Insider Mike Garafolo.
Flynn worked out for the team Friday, and his signing would be interesting. The Patriots could be without starting QB Tom Brady for the first four games of the season due to his Deflategate suspension. Second-year signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo would have been in line to be the starter in Brady's absence, but has looked shaky during offseason workouts.
Flynn has spent time with four teams since breaking into the NFL as a seventh-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2008. He had stints with the Seahawks, Raiders and Bills before being re-signed by the Packers in late 2013.
Flynn is tied for the Packers' single-game record for passing yards (480) and TD passes (six).
