Reports: Tony Romo has two small back fractures

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has two fractured transverse process in his back, according to two media reports.

The injury, which is similar to one suffered by Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty, who missed one game this season due to the injury, occurred during last Monday night's game against the Washington Redskins.

Romo, who is listed as questionable, planned to participate in the team's walkthrough Saturday to test his ailing back ahead of Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals, according to an NFL Network report.

If Romo is unable to go, third-year quarterback Brandon Weeden would get the start. Weeden filled in temporarily for Romo, completing 4 of 6 for 69 yards and a touchdown.

Romo, who was initially diagnosed with a back contusion, has had two surgical procedures on his back the past two years. He has thrown for 1,998 yards and 15 touchdowns this season to help the Cowboys take a half-game lead over the Eagles in the NFC East.

Romo injured his surgically repaired back in Monday's night's loss after taking a knee from Redskins linebacker Keenan Robinson. Following an examination in the locker room, Romo returned but was largely ineffective.

The Cowboys could opt to sit Romo for the next two weeks and have him return in Week 12 against the New York Giants, following the team's bye.
