Ravens TE Pitta still not medically cleared, unable to practice

Published Jun. 17, 2015 7:13 p.m. ET

Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta watched from the sidelines during the first practice of minicamp Tuesday.

Pitta, recovering from a second major surgery on his hip, is still awaiting medical clearance before he can resume practicing with the team. He ran routes and caught balls on the side during voluntary OTAs, but he's unable to take the field until doctors give him the green light.

"A couple of things are going to have to happen for him to play ultimately," head coach John Harbaugh said of Pitta, via The Baltimore Sun. "No. 1, he has to be cleared by the doctors. And, No. 2, he has to decide if he wants to play because obviously there will be some risk involved."

Pitta has expressed a desire to resume his career, but has said it all depends on how his hip recovers. Pitta was untouched when he fractured and dislocated the hip for the second straight year last September in Cleveland.
