Panthers DE Johnson will start against Jets

Published Dec. 15, 2013 7:55 p.m. ET

Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson will start Sunday against the New York Jets.

Johnson, who leads the Panthers in sacks this season, was added to the injury report Saturday as questionable after developing an illness.

Inactive for the Panthers are: running back Jonathan Stewart, wide receivers Tavarres King and Marvin McNutt, offensive tackle Travis Bond, defensive end Wes Horton, cornerback Josh Norman and linebacker Jordan Senn.

Cornerback Antonio Cromartie is active and expected to start for the Jets after recovering from a concussion suffered last Sunday against Oakland. Cromartie had been listed as questionable, and coach Rex Ryan indicated Friday his availability could be a game-time decision. Cromartie was going through the NFL's mandatory concussion protocol all week, and needed to be cleared medically to play.
