Pro Bowl safety Brandon Meriweather agreed to join the Chicago Bears Sunday, one day after he was surprisingly released by the New England Patriots.

The Bears announced on their website that Meriweather has agreed to terms on a one-year contract to play for the team.

Meriweather, 27, played his first four NFL seasons with the Patriots and was named to the Pro Bowl each of the last two years. Meriweather has never missed a game due to injury and has a career tally of 261 tackles and 12 interceptions.
