Indianapolis makes cornerback changes amid injury rash

Published Sep. 22, 2015 11:41 p.m. ET

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) The Colts made a change at cornerback Tuesday by signing Josh Thomas and waiving Eric Patterson.

Thomas was Dallas' fifth-round pick in 2011, spent three seasons in Carolina and played with Seattle, the New York Jets and Detroit in 2014. He was most recently with Minnesota.

Thomas replaces Patterson, who was promoted from the practice squad last week and pressed into service Monday night after Vontae Davis was diagnosed with a concussion.

Starting cornerback Greg Toler (neck) and nickel cornerback Darius Butler (hip) both sat out Monday's game against the Jets.

The Colts also added tight end Sean McGrath to the practice squad, released cornerback Brandon Dixon from the practice squad and reached an injury settlement with running back Vick Ballard.
