Thunder announce extensions for Oladipo, Adams

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 10:28 p.m. ET

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Thunder have announced multi-year extensions for center Steven Adams and guard Victor Oladipo.

The team confirmed the deals in a statement after the deadline at midnight Eastern on Tuesday.

Getting deals done now ensures the two young players with high ceilings won't become restricted free agents next summer and stabilizes the core around Russell Westbrook now that Kevin Durant is in Golden State. Both potentially could have garnered larger deals on the open market. With uncertainty regarding the final details of a new collective bargaining agreement that will begin next season, the Thunder went for the safe move, and the players agreed to the deals.

The Thunder called the extensions multiyear deals, but did not provide details. Two people familiar with the deals confirmed earlier Monday that both were four-year extensions, with Adams's deal worth $100 million and Oladipo's worth $84 million. The people requested anonymity because the deals had yet to be announced.
