Yankees C McCann leaves with left knee stiffness

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 1:21 p.m. ET

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Catcher Brian McCann has left the New York Yankees' spring game against Philadelphia with left knee stiffness.

McCann was hurt Sunday when CC Sabathia hit Ryan Howard with a pitch in the second inning, and the ball ricocheted off the slugger and struck the catcher on the inside of the knee.

After finishing the second, McCann said his knee stiffened up while sitting in the dugout. If it was the regular season, McCann said he would have stayed in the game.
