White Sox demote second baseman Micah Johnson to Triple-A

The Chicago White Sox have optioned second baseman Micah Johnson to Triple-A Charlotte, the team announced Thursday.

The 24-year-old rookie had struggled defensively and failed to display the power and speed at the big league level that won him the job during spring training.

Johnson was hitting .270/.330/.297 over 27 games in April and May but seemed to be turning the corner as of late. Over his last ten games, Johnson was hitting .310/.375/.345 with a stolen base towards the bottom of the Sox's lineup.

The team will likely call on utility man Emilio Bonafacio to replace Johnson as the primary second baseman, while Carlos Sanchez is expected to be recalled from Triple-A.
