Ventura plans on managing through his contract

Published Sep. 30, 2012 3:47 p.m. ET

Robin Ventura made it clear Sunday: The first-year manager plans on being around for the remaining two years on his contract with the Chicago White Sox.

He raised a few eyebrows Saturday when asked if he could ever see himself managing as long as a Walter Alston or Tommy Lasorda. Ventura said he couldn't and was just hoping to get through this season.

He clarified his answer when asked again Sunday, saying he plans to be around for two more years if the White Sox want him.

Chicago, in first place for 117 days this season, trailed Detroit by two games in the AL Central before Sunday's play.
