Third baseman Mark Teahen has abruptly left the Chicago White Sox's spring training camp to tend to a health issue involving a family member.
Manager Ozzie Guillen said Friday family comes first and he didn't want Teahen to be distracted on the field, where he is competing with Brent Morel for the starting spot at third base.
Injured for much of last season, Teahen only played in 77 games, posting a .258 batting average with four home runs and 25 RBIs. He is in the second year of a three-year, $14 million contract.
Guillen said he hopes Teahen will return to camp in a few days.
