The Dodgers, continuing their early offseason activity, were closing in on a one-year, major-league contract Tuesday with free-agent infielder Adam Kennedy, according to a major-league source.
Kennedy, 35, is a left-handed hitter who likely will contribute at second and third base. He batted .234/.277/.355 in 114 games with the Mariners last season.
The Dodgers already have signed three free agents — outfielder Juan Rivera, second baseman Mark Ellis and catcher Matt Treanor. They also have awarded center fielder Matt Kemp an eight-year, $160 million contract.
For Kennedy, the deal will amount to something of a homecoming. He was born in Riverside, Calif., attended Cal State Northridge and played for the Angels from 2000 to '06.
