Sixty years ago, Joe D, Marilyn tied knot in SF's City Hall

Sixty years ago on Jan. 14, 1954 in San Francisco’s City Hall, one of the most famous couples of all time married.
The Yankee Clipper just turned 39 two months earlier -- he was born on Nov. 25, 1914 – and had retired after the 1951 season. Actress and sex symbol Monroe was 28 and had already been married once, while DiMaggio was also on his second marriage. His first wife was actress Dorothy Arnold, but they divorced in 1944.
With that kind of husband-and-wife history on both sides, it was no surprise this union only lasted 274 days.
Monroe would marry again, while DiMaggio was linked to several starlets but remained single. However, reports claim the two remained close until Monroe’s death on Aug. 5, 1962.
When DiMaggio died in 1999, his last words were said to be, “I’ll finally get to see Marilyn.”
