Severino, hit hard again, headed to DL with triceps strain

NEW YORK (AP) Yankees pitcher Luis Severino, hit hard yet again, will go on the disabled list Saturday with a mild right triceps strain.

Severino gave up seven runs in 2 2/3 innings in Friday night's 7-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox, raising his ERA to 7.46.

New York sent the 22-year-old right-hander to a hospital for an MRI and announced the diagnosis after the game. Yankees spokesman Michael Margolis said Severino (0-6) will not pick up a baseball for five-to-seven days. A corresponding roster move will be made Saturday.

Jimmy Rollins' two-run homer into the right field second deck put Chicago ahead 7-1 in the third, and Severino threw ball one to Jose Abreu.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi went to the mound with head athletic trainer Steve Donohue, and Severino walked to the dugout as Nick Goody relieved.

Despite throwing a fastball at up to 98 mph, Severino allowed seven hits and four walks. He tied Minnesota's Phil Hughes for the big league lead in losses.

Severino made his big league debut last Aug. 5 and went 5-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 11 starts.
