Rockies motivated by home crowd in Sunday's win
The Colorado Rockies won only their second home series of the year on Sunday to improve to 15-21 at Coors Field. Both series wins have come against National League Central teams -- the division-leading Cardinals and the cellar-dwelling Brewers.
It’s been noted that the Rockies have not been playing well at home this season, which is unusual for the Rox. Additionally, attendance has been down, perhaps in relation to the team’s poor play at home. Or is it the other way around?
Purple Row highlighted the effect of the crowd at Coors Field in the Rockies’ win on Sunday. The Rockies blog quotes manager Walt Weiss:
"It was a good crowd today…We even commented on it before the game. They were loud and that always helps, believe me.”
Purple Row also quotes Sunday's starting pitcher Chris Rusin:
"There were a lot of people today...They were loud and they were into it, it was good to see. It helps you out, it fuels your fire and keeps you going.”
Over 41,000 fans were in attendance at Coors Field on Sunday. The average this year has been lower than normal at just under 30,000.
