Report: Zito set to start after car crash
San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy Saturday declared pitcher Barry Zito a "95 percent" chance of playing in Sunday's season finale against the Dodgers after the left-hander was involved in a car crash, MLB.com reported.
Zito, who has only missed two starts in his 10-year career in the majors, was hospitalized after reportedly being broadsided by a taxi that ran a red light in West Hollywood Wednesday night.
The 2002 AL Cy Young Award winner showed up at training in a neck brace Thursday before an MRI later cleared him of serious injury.
"Everything was normal. I'm really blessed in that right," Zito said upon receiving the scan results.
"It's scary. It's a scary sound hearing metal hitting metal. If I hadn't made a decision to hit the gas when I did, he would've hit me in the front and it would've been a whole different story."
Meanwhile, closer Brian Wilson will test his oblique in a simulated game Sunday, having missed the start of the season with the injury he picked up last month in spring training.
If the two-time All-Star can throw freely in the game and still feel good Monday, the Giants will consider activating him from the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday.
