Reds place RHP Moscot on DL, send OF Boesch to Triple-A

DETROIT (AP) Looking to bolster a short-handed bullpen, the Cincinnati Reds promoted two pitchers from the minors after placing right-hander Jon Moscot on 15-day disabled list and optioning sending Brennan Boesch down to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

Right-handers Donovan Hand and Carlos Contreras were called up from Louisville a day after Moscot lasted only seven pitches before leaving with a dislocated left shoulder in the opener against Detroit. As a result, manager Bryan Price was forced to run through his bullpen in a 6-0 loss.

To make room for Hand on the 40-man roster, the Reds moved Zack Cozart (knee) to the 60-day DL.

Hand, who pitched 31 games for the Brewers in 2013, has been working as a spot starter and long reliever in Louisville, posting a 4.50 ERA in 15 games. Contreras has been with the Reds for portions of the last two seasons. In three games this year, he has a 2.70 ERA.

Boesch was hitting .125 in 32 games and misplayed a routine line drive on Monday.

Price said the team is still considering options to replace Moscot in the rotation.
