Reds' Phillips extends hit streak, then hit by pitch, exits

NEW YORK (AP) Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips has been hit in the finger by a pitch from Mets ace Noah Syndergaard and forced to exit the game Monday night.

Phillips was nicked in the fourth inning. He fell to his knees on the grass down the third base line, was examined by a trainer and left. X-rays on his left ring finger were negative.

Earlier, Phillips beat out an infield single, giving him a hit in all 33 road games he's played against the Mets.

The 33-game streak is the longest by a player on the road against a single opponent since Hall of Famer Joe ''Ducky'' Medwick of the Cardinals got hits in 46 straight games at Brooklyn from 1933-37, the Reds said in citing the Elias Sports Bureau.

Phillips started his string with 10 games at Shea Stadium and extended it with 23 games at Citi Field.
