Pirates pitcher Ryan Vogelsong carted off after taking pitch to the face

Pittsburgh pitcher Ryan Vogelsong left Monday's Pirates-Rockies game in the second inning after being hit in the face by a Jordan Lyles pitch. Vogelsong remained face down in the dirt for a full minute before sitting up and eventually getting to his feet. Vogelsong walked under his own power to a cart and was taken off the field with a towel covering the left side of his face.
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review photographer Christopher Horner shared a brutal photo of the moment of impact on Twitter.

The Pirates commentators eerily warned Lyles not to hit Volgelson just seconds before it happened.
