Phillies prospect touched up by FSU

Published Mar. 4, 2010 3:55 a.m. ET

Phillies top pitching prospect Phillippe Aumont allowed five runs in the third inning of Philadelphia's 13-6 victory against Florida State on Wednesday night.

Aumont, one of three prospects the Phillies received in an offseason trade that sent Cliff Lee to the Seattle Mariners, took over for starter J.A. Happ in the third inning.

``It's the first outing, you have to start with that,'' Aumont said. ``I can't do worse than that. We're just going to have to build on that.''

The 6-foot-7 right-hander allowed three hits, walked three, threw a wild pitch that allowed a run and served up a three-run home run to Florida State designated hitter Stuart Tapley.

``That's all right - it was his first time out there,'' Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. ``He was having trouble getting the ball over the plate and then he threw a 3-2 fastball and (Tapley) put the good part of the bat on it.''

Most of the Phillies starters exited after the first two innings and reserves and minor leaguers helped erase the early 5-0 deficit.

Domonic Brown, the Phillies' most highly rated prospect, led the way with an RBI single in his first at-bat. Veteran outfielder Chris Duffy drove in two runs.

``We hung in there and came back like the Phillies team of old,'' Manuel said in tongue-in-cheek fashion after the exhibition victory. ``The biggest thing to me was getting the pitchers in the game. And our hitters got to see live pitching.''

Aumont also admitted he had some jitters in his first outing since being a part of the trade. On the same day the Phils dealt for Roy Halladay back in December, the team sent Lee to Seattle for Aumont and fellow minor-league prospects Tyson Gillies and J.C. Ramirez.

``I went out there I tried to stay calm and relaxed, and not try to overdo it,'' Aumont said. ``With new guys behind me, you want to get that first impression and you have that pressure of being traded for Cliff Lee, you want to do good. You don't want to disappoint, especially the fans.''

Aumont is scheduled to pitch again Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

NOTES: Roy Halladay will make his Phillies debut this afternoon when the New York Yankees come to Clearwater Thursday afternoon. CC Sabathia is scheduled to start for New York All-Star center fielder Shane Victorino (right shoulder) was held out of the starting lineup and will likely sit out Thursday's game with the New York Yankees. But Manuel expects Victorino back in the lineup ``in the next two to three days.'' Victorino took pre-game batting practice Jimmy Rollins singled in his only at-bat and stole a base. ``I figured I'd rest Jimmy for CC,'' Manuel said with a laugh.
