Orioles' Machado apologizes to A's for weekend antics

Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado apologized to the Oakland A's on Monday night for his weekend antics, which included tossing his bat toward third base following two pitches from A's left-hander Fernando Abad that nearly hit him.

That bat toss resulted in the benches emptying.

"I want to apologize to all my teammates, my coaching staff, the entire Orioles organization, and Oakland and to my fans for the way I acted," Machado told MASN Sports. "That's not the way we play baseball around here."

Machado was at the center of several contentious plays during the series, including a tag play with A's third baseman Josh Donaldson on Friday and two backswings that struck A'€™s catcher Derek Norris on Sunday.

Machado reportedly didn'€™t apologize to Norris during Sunday's game but did address that situation Monday.

"I want to apologize to Derek; that wasn't intentional," Machado told MASN Sports. "I didn't realize how hard I had hit him with the bat; I have a tough follow-through. ... I do want to apologize for taking him out of the game."

Major League Baseball could discipline Machado for his actions. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that a decision is expected to come down today.
