New York Yankees: 5 Reasons Tim Tebow is Worth A Look

Tim Tebow has started his journey toward becoming a major league baseball player. Here are five reasons why the New York Yankees should take a look.
Tim Tebow finally had his long-awaited workout in front of MLB scouts in LA. The verdict? A raw prospect with some upside but needs work. A lot of work. While that might seem like nothing special, if you know Tebow, you know he’s a guy that defies conventional wisdom.
A lot of MLB clubs may pass on him, but the New York Yankees should definitely take a chance and add Tebow to their farm system as a work in progress. While he’s not a polished or even particularly developed baseball player, he does bring great athleticism to build on as well as being Tebow which counts for something.
Any teams interest in Tebow would be as a developmental player, but there are a few positives to bringing him in. The attention that Tebow would bring to a minor league ballpark would be unheard of. Media and fans from across the country would be lining up to see him play. While some will say this is a distraction, others will see the dollar signs that comes with Tebow.
Making a transition from the NFL to the MLB is not an easy thing by any means, but here are 5 reasons why the Yankees should take a look at Tebow.
Athleticism
The number one reason scouts even showed up for the workout is that he is a heck of an athlete.
Standing at 6’3” and weighing 255 pounds, he is a fairly large guy, especially by baseball standards as position players go. He is going to generate a lot of power at the plate and it will only be more profound as he develops his swing mechanics. He also has great speed and agility for a frame his size that should translate to him being able to cover a good amount of ground in the outfield.
Intangibles
Tebow’s strengths, even as a football player, has always been his intangibles. He’s a dedicated and committed professional who has shown great leadership and the ability to inspire his teammates. Those qualities could be great to bring into a locker room, especially in the farm system. A guy like Tebow can show young players how to conduct themselves, as well as be a professional. Tebow has been in the spotlight for quite some time, and even with heavy doubt from a plethora of critics, he has always remained stoic in his demeanor and unwavering in his confidence. Tebow would be an awesome locker room guy to have.
Culture Guy
Admitted, despite the trades made at the deadline to bolster the Yankees youth system, the team hasn’t had the greatest success in developing consistent prospects through their farm system. Lately, it seems the team wants to change that, in an effort to rebuild.
Tebow would be a good signing to not only bolster the ranks of your possible talent, but to reaffirm the message to the other young guys in the system that the organization is looking to get serious about creating a winning culture in their youth system, and looking to build from within.
Media Darling
Signing Tebow represents a low-risk, high-reward kind of deal. Not just for his on-field potential, but off the field. Simply put, Tebow is an attraction. Tebow’s squeaky clean persona, being a man of faith and principle, works very well to the fans of any sport. He’s humble, hardworking, and inspirational; there’s really nothing not to like.
Playing for the Trenton Thunder or Scranton Railraiders would only boost the profile and ticket sales of those times for however long Tebow Is there, which is good business. Fans love Tebow wherever he goes, to almost a cult level, and it won’t be any different despite the change in the sport.
Proven Winner
Tebow has been a proven winner at every level of competition he’s participated in. As a high school junior playing baseball, he posted a .494 average and led his team deep into the playoffs. In football, he led the Florida Gators to two national championships while winning the Heisman award in 2007. At the professional level, with the Denver Broncos, Tebow had a fantastic stretch. Leading his team to some very improbably wins thanks to clutch heroics.
His the greatest victory came in the divisional round of the playoffs. On the first play of overtime, Tebow completed an 80-yard touchdown to Demaryius Thomas to seal the game and defeat a heavily favored Pittsburgh Steelers team. That game furthered the Tebow legend and inspired his legion of fans that he still maintains today.
While all of this is only considering his actual physical gifts, there is a lot of work ahead for Tebow to polish his skills. Having not played truly organized baseball since high school, he has a great deal of catching up to. Baseball is a game of consistency, with most players having played the game for most if not all their lives.
That leaves Tebow very much so behind the 8-ball, trying to catch up the major league level. Pitchers have become even more deceptive in today’s game, and there is no room for error no matter how much of a star you are. But if there is one guy to bet on, and not to count out, it’s Tebow. The Yankees wouldn’t have much to lose, and everything to gain.
